Wave Modleing of Tidal Currents

Arriving waves in the Chabahar Bay area will definitely experience transformation considering specific geometry and geomorphology of the bay and also special pattern of bathymetry variations. The importance of wave transformation will be more obvious considering the fact that the period of arriving waves into the Chabahar Bay are mostly more than 10 s which are relevant to long waves and the effects of interaction with bed will be magnified. The effects may be considered through refraction and shoaling terms. In surf zone, breaking phenomena should be also included. For simulation of the first two phenomena, analytical methods are available for simple geometry and bathymetry conditions; however, they are not applicable in this case considering complex bathymetry of the area. Hence, mathematical modeling procedure is applied to obtain wave patterns inside the bay. Wave transformation modeling aims the following objectives

• Determining propagation pattern of arriving waves inside the bay considering various wave heights and directions
• Preparing appropriate design charts to be applied in engineering affairs
• Assessing model capability for wave transformation simulations
• Clarifying appropriate method in wave transformation modeling in the project area

Since understanding wave patterns and properties is a main objective of modeling processes, simulations of wave transformation into the bay area are performed. An example of simulated significant wave height is presented in Figure 1. Simulated wave-roses in two different locations inside the bay are presented in Figure 2.

Modeling of Wave Penetration into Shaheed Beheshti Port
Considering the importance of calmness inside the port area; especially in determining port location, wave penetration modeling into Shaheed Beheshti Port is carried out in this study using Mike21-BW model. Sample results of modeling processes are presented in Figures 3 and 4.
